Review of Drawing Ezo exhibition at Nepenthes Gallery, December 2008

Click here to download the original newsclipping (in Japanese)

Article translates from Japanese to English as:

"Drawing Ezo" was held at Nepenthes Gallery from Dec. 5 to Dec. 18 in
2008. Gemma Anderson who is from Northern Ireland, during the three
months she stayed in Sapporo she visited the Maruyama Zoo to draw zoo
keepers within the confines of the animal cage. Drawing their
portraits directly on copper plate she later added sensitive brushwork
and fantasy art. Her art work is excellent with an exquisite and
speedy touch and it creates a serene silence and sophisticated space.
The exhibition is not so many art works, but high quality work. It is
not the size and number that counts. I could feel the energy from the
artist, so it is thought-provoking art work.

On Ritual Abuse Show:

"Wanna be in my cult? Ritual Abuse brings together 14 hot, youngbloods from Goldsmiths, the RCA, Central Saint martins and the Royal Academy Schools who all explore ideas around rite and ritual in their work. There's lots of strange references to new age and gothic aesthetics here, often with fascinating lo-fi approach, with pieces including stunning paper work by Gemma Anderson, and bad bunnies from the show's artist-curator Harry Burden. The perfect antidote from over-technological society" p.239
